Amid Covid 19 pandemic, the Malawi Electoral Commission has suspended the first phase of voter registration.
This has come as government declared a 21 day lockdown in a bid to fight the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
According to a press release, MEC chairperson Justice Dr. Jane Ansah has said the suspension is to protect people coming to register and those working for MEC in the exercise.
She however said, the Commission will wait for Supreme court of Appeal to determine on the matter since the Constitutional court said the fresh election should be conducted within 150 days.
The commission has also suspended all the activities in respect of the 21 day lock down”, Dr. Ansah said.
