Gazettes of Control of Goods Act gives hope to SMEs
Government has from 10th July 2020 gazette Control of Goods Act that is likely to facilitate the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises.
According to principal secretary in ministry of Trade Kiswell Dakamaua, the act regulates importation and exportation of goods into and from Malawi by restricting, banning and allowing export or import under licence.
Dakamau said in a press release: “in order to import and export goods covered under this act, a trader is required to obtain an import or export license from the ministry”.
Commenting on the development, Mayeso Msokera from Malawi Trade Portal, said this will help to curb importation and exportation of illegal goods
Msokera also said the act will help Malawi to reduce exportation of agricultural goods such as Maize to other countries hence preventing shortage of food.
National executive director for small and medium enterprises William Peter Mwale commended government for gusseting the act saying it will bring sanity into the industry.
“This will encourage local SMEs to boost their business at national and international level”, said Mwale.
